SWING CHECK

Uses a hinged disc that swings open with forward flow and swings shut when flow stops or reverses. Low pressure drop, suitable for horizontal and vertical (upward flow) pipework. The most common type for general plumbing and water supply.

LIFT CHECK

Uses a guided disc or piston that lifts off its seat under forward flow pressure and drops back to close on flow reversal. Better suited to higher-pressure applications and pulsating flow. Must be installed horizontally with the bonnet upright.

What is the difference between a check valve and a gate valve?
A check valve operates automatically — it opens with forward flow and closes to prevent backflow without any manual intervention. A gate valve is manually operated using a handwheel to open or close the line. Check valves are used for backflow prevention; gate valves are used for isolation.
Can a check valve be installed vertically?
Swing check valves can be installed vertically only when flow direction is upward — the disc needs gravity and flow reversal to close correctly.
